A little background on why I am running

As some of you may know my cousin Kody went to school in Mexico. While she was there she decided to fall in love. When she came back to Canada she brought this guy back with her. Needless to say, he didn't know any english. The first time meeting him our family taught him every inappropriate word or phrase. I feel since then he really connected with the family. Since then, Rafa has learned english and has become a very big apart of our family.

Rafa was diagnosed with testicular cancer on February 14, 2011. Rafa Started chemotherapy in March 2011. His treatments started in March and went through April into May. The Oncologist decided that surgery was necessary to remove tissue he felt would pose a threat in the future. July 22, 2011, Rafa underwent surgery. After the surgery Rafa was to have a follow up appointment to have his staples removed. Rafa couldn't get into his family physician. At the time I was working at a doctor's office and informed Rafa that he could come see the doctor I work for to have the staples removed. Little did he know, I had spoken to the doctor and he was going to let me take the staples out! Ha! You should have seen his face when I walked in the room with the staple remover!!! I then proceeded to take out 31 staples. Since then Rafa has been doing very well! During this time, Kody's very close friend Paige put on a fundraiser in support of Rafa and Kody. We had an overwhelming amount of support from everyone. I am still grateful for everyone's assistance.

Now that Rafa is feeling better, he is back to himself. He is back to cracking jokes, rolling on Lance's lawn, drinking tequila and being stronger than ever.

It was Rafa and Kody who came to me asking if I wanted to do this run, and as you can imagine there was no hesitation to say yes. I will take any chance I can get to out run everyone...As long as I know there will be a cold beer at the end waiting for me.

Rafa and Kody are now engaged and have such a bright future ahead of them!
